The Northern Manitoba Sector Council (NMSC) coordinated the development and delivery of a Manitoba Security Guard Course, that was open to The Pas, MB/OCN and area.  Successful participants of this program would obtain their MB Security Guard License.

Program planning and development began in the summer of 2024 after being approached by the NRHA who at the time required Security Guards at their hospital located in The Pas, MB.  We, the Manitoba Sector Council began looking into training options and service providers who could deliver this training in The Pas.  We hired Fred Martin’s Security Guard Training (Fred Martin) from OCN to train and deliver all training and supplies required.  All recruitment was done within The Pas and area.  Ten (10) participants were brought on board, after the application and interview process.  The interview process was completed in The Pas and conducted by Alison Akert, Project Coordinator (NMSC) and Joan Abrahamson.

This project was advertised through all social media accounts, NMSC Website and hard copies taken to select areas in The Pas, MB.  All applications were sent to the Project Coordinator, Alison Akert.

We received over 20 applications and reached out to approximately 20 candidates, 15 interviews were scheduled, and 10 candidates attended their interviews.  All interviews were completed with Project Coordinator Alison Akert and Joan Abrahamson, Project Officer (Employment & Training Partnerships).  All 10 participants that were interviewed were selected to participate in this Program.  This program was Paid Training, through NMSC.  Students were paid an hourly rate of (minimum wage) for the two weeks of classroom learning.

Classroom learning began during the week of July 29, 2024, for a two-week period.  1 week consisted of Life Skills and the 2nd week was MB Security Guard Training.  Within 1 month of the end date students wrote their 1st attempt (exam) in the NMSC office which was proctored at a distance through a program called E-Proctor.  For the students that were not successful, we then arranged for a 2-day refresher course by Fred Martin and had arranged for a physical proctor to oversee the students write their second and final exam.
