Overview
In collaboration with UCN, The Northern Manitoba Sector Council (NMSC), and RDPC . Coordinated the development and delivery of Small Engine Training
Program planning and development began in early March. During this initial meeting, CEDF, UCN, and the NMSC met to discuss moving forward with this project.
Program/Project to Consist of the following:
- Start date of April 23rd, 2024
- Class was delivered on weekday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for a total of 85 hours
- The course ran for a duration of 3 months, longer than expected the class was working around the students and teacher schedules
- Maximum of 10 students
TRAINING SCHEDULE – Duration of 3 months:
Small engine curriculum for a total of 85 shop/class hours
Classes took place in the evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and some Saturdays from 9:00am – 5:00pm.
All students worked full-time jobs, so the schedule was made by students to ensure the attendance was not a barrier.
Classes took place Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in class and Thursday class was online from the comfort of their homes.
We initially started this project with 7 participants, 4 males and 3 females. Within the second week we lost 1 participant due to personal reasons. This left us with 6 remaining students, these 6 students completed the project successfully. All students had fulltime jobs and took this course for their own personal benefit. They all found it super interesting and recommend others to take advantage of the opportunity if the course runs again. Next time we would want to advertise for a long period to get more applications and interest and target people who aren’t employed to actually get them into this field of work.
All-in-classroom training for the entire duration of this project was held at RDPC in their small engine classroom. Teacher was great and the class was organized. No issues at all with students. RDPC supplied all the engines and tools. Which made the project easy to coordinate and run in a short period of time.
Graduation/final class took place June 18th, 2024 in the small engine classroom. NMSC Council supplied a pizza party. Weeks later UCN handed out completion certificates to the students.
